The societies that thrive best are the ones where the strengths of the past are brought together with the growth of the new parts of the city.

Urban neighbourhoods are about people, and people need roots and understanding to flourish. The best cities in the world—where tourists flock and gather—are the ones that have maintained their cultural heritage. For a city to be sustainable, the cultural elements are, in fact, more important in the long run than environmental sustainability.
